History

There have been a number of commentators who have attempted to date the year in which the Barne house was built, but the definitive authority is written in the hand of Stephen Moore on the reverse side of the painting that is displayed on this page .
It says:

"Barne" House
originally built in 1628
restored and wings added in 1778
with parapet and low roof as shown in
this picture
entirely re-roofed and attic story added       
with high French roof & dormer windows in 1877
